One Memphis police officer was struck twice and another officer was struck once when an armed suspect began shooting during a foot chase with police.
Two Tennessee police officers were critically wounded Thursday after they were shot at close range by a suspect, who also was struck in the exchange.
The shooting happened at about 7:30 p.m. when Memphis police responded to a report of a person with a gun, The Commercial Appeal reports. Officers pursued the suspect on foot, and that's when the gunman began shooting at close range.
One officer was struck twice and another was struck once before they returned fire. Three shots wounded the suspect.
The officers and the gunman were taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition. Their identities were not released.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
